Nongtalang

Nongtalang is a pleasant and a serene place which is home to a very warm and hospitable people. It is situated 97 kilometers away from Shillong and just 13 kilometers away from Bangladesh. It falls in the Jaintia Hills District of the State of Meghalaya, under Amlarem Block. The major occupation of the people is the cultivation of betel nut and betel leaves. There is a famous ritual that has been practiced by the people here in the form of a dance known as ‘Shad Rongkhli’. This dance is performed only when a particular ‘Kur’ (clan) kills a tiger in a hunt. This has been practiced from time immemorial. Nongtalang houses one secondary school, three upper primary schools and eight lower primary schools. There is one college that is affiliated to NEHU.

Martin Luther Christian University- Nongtalang

The campus was inaugurated on the 19th of August 2008 by Shri Lahkmen Rymbui the local M.L.A. of the War Jaintia Region. The campus has only one Department i.e. the Department of Information Science, offering the BCA, DCA and PGDCA courses.
