School of Social Work

The Mission Statement
“To strive towards excellence in the field of social work and promote research that is aligned with our cultural heritage and indigenous knowledge systems through a comprehensive development of students.  ”

It has been more than a decade since the inception of the Department of Social Work in 2006. The job prospects at that point in time had led the Department to conduct generic courses in the Bachelor and Master’s programme. Subsequently, specialisations were introduced. The growth of the department and the need of the Northeast necessitated the expansion of its scope into a School of Social Work.

The School of Social Work will be launched in the academic year 2020-21 and will have four departments, each with its own programmes and courses.  In addition, gender studies will be offered in collaboration with the Centre for GENDER.

  1. Family and Child Studies
  2. Public Health
  3. Community Development
  4. Medical and Psychiatric Social Work
  5. Gender Studies

The School of Social Work aims to bring out specialised, competent and professional social work practitioners. The School also has a centre for community development, named Iateilang, ‘Building Together.’

The major projects and activities initiated and organized by the department include:
