MLCU's “Peace through Music"

Shillong November 10: The Department of Music, Martin Luther Christian University in collaboration with the Department of Christian Studies and Peace Initiatives of Martin Luther Christian University, organised a musical event on November 10, 2018 in Ward’s Lake, Shillong under the theme “Peace through Music’. The event was also supported by Red FM as the media partner.

As people were strolling by the lakeside and some of them peddling the boats, pleasing to the ears is the music in the form of soul, classical, and western music with traditional and indigenous mix in it.

This event has become a popular fixture aptly called “Music by The Lake”, since the department first performed in Ward’s Lake in 2014.

The main objective of this year’s Music by the Lake is to spread awareness about the power of music towards having peace in the world.

Speaking at the event, the Head of the Department of Christian Studies and Peace Initiatives, Rev Elungkiebe Zeliang, stressed that conflicts all over the world and even in your city affects lives of all ages and that peace is the need of the hour if we are to survive as a society in the world. He added that musicians across different generations and different genres have always used their talent in music to spread the message of love and peace.

The performances included songs with the message of peace and were performed by not only the department of Music but also the students from other departments of the University who were taking music as one of their minor papers.

Every performance saw both the public visiting the lake and the students enjoying these performances to the fullest and also provide the students a different kind of stage for building their confidence and using their music to attract a pre non-existent audience.

One of the objectives of these events is to provide a platform for students to showcase their musical skills and talents, going a long way for the student-performers to learn experientially.
