About the program

The prevailing socio-ecological problems require a multidisciplinary approach that transcends the usual boundaries of science and decision-making. This program trains students in wide-ranging interdisciplinary thinking skills and provides them with the ability to study and understand the environmental and sustainability issues with special reference to Northeast India, and solve the problems of socio-ecological sustainability in collaboration with various social stakeholders.

The program also aims to provide students with a wide range of knowledge and skills relating to environmental studies.

This postgraduate program is multidisciplinary and relates to current environmental issues, conservation strategies, energy flow, nutrient cycling, legal aspects, community organization, environmental and social impact assessment, basic ecological and technological concerns and advances, and scientific analysis and solutions to environmental problems.

As part of the field activities students will be exposed to the values and practices of environmentally conducive indigenous methods and the government regulatory framework. They will also be given an opportunity to inculcate skills to cope with the environmental problems prevailing in our surroundings.

Career prospects

The career options for graduates with MAES are available in government and private organizations, including industries and NGOs. The course in itself covers both natural science and social science and promises employment opportunities as environmentalists, environmental managers, researchers, project managers, and environmental consultants and analysts.
