Ha Jylli ki Khriang 2025: MLCU’s Annual Concert Celebrates Rhythms of Tradition and Innovation

The Department of Music, Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong once again set the stage on fire with mesmerizing performances of students at the 9th edition of “Ha Kylli ki Khriang” an annual concert of the Department on the 13th of June, 2025 at Wahingdoh Community Hall. The title, which translates to “Circle of Rhythms” reflects the cycling pattern inherent in many traditional Khasi dances, symbolizing unity and harmony through music.

This concert serves as a platform for students to exhibit their musical abilities through performances in various languages, dialects and genres. The repertoire  includes original compositions, folk music, folk fusion and covers. The experiential learning opportunity in performance was also evaluated by noted musicians from Shillong who have provided encouraging and constructive feedback to further enhance technical and interpretive skills of students.

The concert was open to public and the audience were enthralled with music that got their body moved, nod and headbang to the musical display by students, inviting them to an evening where tradition meets innovation, with rhythms of the past to the present converging in harmony. It was truly a memorable and delightful way to conclude the week, enveloped in the grandeur of relaxing and beautiful music.
