School of Social Work

The Department of Social Work was upgraded to being the School of Social Work in September 2020.The aim of this School is striving towards excellence in the field of social work and promote research that is aligned with our cultural heritage and indigenous knowledge systems. The School strives to achieve the aim throughfour different departmentseach with its own programmes and courses.

Departments

  1. Department of Public Health

    The department offers Public Health as a specialization tostudents pursuing MSW. The vision of this department is achieving good health and wellbeing for all through prevention, enabling access to affordable health care services, research and policy change. The mission isto enhance knowledge and professional skills of students in social work in combination with public health through research, identification, prevention, institutional and community engagement, advocacy for policy change and inclusion of traditional knowledge systems.

  2. Department of Family and Child Studies

    The department offers Family and Child Studies as a specialisation to students pursuing MSW. The vision of this department is strengthening and creating proficient social work professionals pertaining to family and child. The mission is aiming towards outstanding quality of social work practices and research relating to family and child in the context of indigenous communities.

  3. Department of Community Development

    The department offers Community Development as a specialization to students pursuing MSW. The aim of this department is to develop expertise in dealing with community problems through research, relevant and sustainable intervention strategies in partnership with practiced-based government and non-governmental organisations in the context of indigenous peoples.

  4. Department of Mental Health and Well-being

    The department offers specialization in Medical and Psychiatric Social to students pursuing MSW. The vision of this department is generating industrious and conscious learners who will promote physiological and mental health care through social work practice and interventions. The mission isto identify, prevent and provide holistic care, services and research for healthy living in tribal communities through social work practice.
