MASTER OF SCIENCE IN NUTRITION AND DIETETICS (MSc)

About the programme: Nutritionists and Dietitians provide dietary guidance to people to improve their health, avoid nutritionally related diseases, and maintain adequate nutrition during illness. People suffering from certain disease conditions need to be mindful of their eating habits and the kind of food they eat. Ignorance of this can aggravate the disease, whereas adherence to the right diet can help in speedy recovery or stability of the condition. Their major role is to assist people in planning their meals depending on their age, sickness, or work routine. They provide group or individualized dietary counselling and organize food service systems in hospitals, schools, hotels, and other institutions. They also specialize in education, research, administration, and clinical or community nutrition.

Specializations offered are: – 1.  Nutrition and Dietetics

  1. Community Nutrition
  2. MSc Nutrition and Dietetics specialization in Foods and Nutrition

Duration: 2 years (4 semesters of coursework and internship). Post-coursework students are encouraged to attend 6 months of Dietary Internship.

Eligibility: Any bachelor’s degree in one of the following:

  1. Food Nutrition and Dietetics
  2. Home Science with Food and Nutrition as a specialization. The student should have covered a minimum of four courses out of the following: Nutritional Biochemistry, Food Microbiology, Basic Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition and Therapeutic Nutrition.
  3. Any undergraduate degree with a minimum of 4 nutrition-related subjects like (i) Basic Nutrition (ii) Biochemistry (iii) Human Physiology (iv) Diet Therapy (v) Clinical Nutrition (vi) Diet in Diseases. PG Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics are eligible for lateral entry to the 3rd semester.
