Candidates with sufficient experience in public health maybe exempt from the bridge course

Duration: 3 years including 1-year bridge course

Along with the Application form, candidates shall submit a 500 word essay on a public health issue of relevance to India and a 300 word personal statement on ‘Why I wish to do an MPH’.

The World Health Organization adopted public health as a core of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in 2017 and the Government of India had declared UHC as a goal to be achieved by 2022. Despite significant achievements over the past decade, Public Health challenges continue to prevail in India and in the world.

While old threats continue to challenge health systems, new issues and challenges have appeared that burden the health systems. Creation of a dedicatedPublic Health Cadre has been identified as one of the important pre-requisites in moving towards improving health systems. Public Health professionals help in bridging the gap between the clinical and managerial aspects of the programme implementation and provide techno-managerial inputs.

Public Health Programmes demand a special emphasis on the study of disease epidemiology, various  determinants of health & emerging challenges in health, public policy making and programme management.

The MPH course will attempt to prepare competent cadre of professional  who have a basic understanding of the various aspects of public health and are able to successfully apply this knowledge towards meeting public health challenges in the Indian context. The state of Meghalaya has sanctioned posts for a state and district epidemiologists.

Objectives:

This course aims to develop and strengthen the public health workforce and to develop capacity in health care leadership and management in northeast India.

  • Analytical and assessment skills for collecting and interpreting information
  • Policy planning and development skills to address public health challenge
  • Communication skills for advocacy, dissemination and evaluation of public health data and information

Course delivery:

Pedagogy: lectures, practicum, field work, assignments, internship, some subjects will be delivered in modules.

Assessment: continuous formative evaluation, presentations, reports
