One Day Workshop organized by the Department of Music

The Department of Music Tetso College, Dimapur Nagaland in collaboration with the Department of Music, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), organized a one day workshop consisting of three insightful sessions focused on Khasi Folk Music, Indian Classical Vocal Music, and Music for Wellness. Esteemed speakers included Dr. Donovan K. Swer, Dr. Mebanlamphang Lyngdoh, and Ms. Banrimika Dellis Iawim, with the sessions hosted by Miss N Shelao Konyak a faculty from Tetso College.

Dr. Mebanlamphang Lyngdoh emphasized the significance of Khasi Folk Music and the traditional musical instruments associated with their cultural heritage. Dr. Lyngdoh also emphasized the Duitara, a four-string instrument that is popular among the Khasi tribe.

Ms. Banrimika Dellis Iawim discussed Indian Classical Music and briefly touched on its history related to the Mughals of India.

“Music helps with stress” said Dr. Donovan K. Swer, he emphasized the therapeutic effects of music, highlighting its ability to assist individuals in coping with stress and achieving a sense of tranquillity. His presentation included benefits and techniques associated with music for wellness. Research indicates that music can lead to a 78% reduction in stress levels, showcasing its effectiveness as a coping mechanism for many individuals.

On July 22, 2025, a collaborative musical performance was organised at The Evening Club under the event named “AMusiCafe” where students of both institutions performed a rich mix of genres.

The evening celebrated creativity, collaboration, and cultural exchange, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. Both institutions expressed their commitment to fostering such initiatives that promote musical growth and strengthen academic and cultural ties.
