World Environment Day 2025 was organised by Mawmluh Tourism & Allied Activities Co-operative Society in collaboration with Department of Environment and Traditional Ecosystems and Rangers and Rovers of the Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong at Mawmluh, observing this year’s theme “Ending Global Plastic Pollution”. Mr Bansan Kupar Lyngdoh, secretary, MTAACS, commenced the event which was graced by participation of BDO, Shella Bholaganj C&RD Madam A Kynta, Women SHG and also by three schools of the village – Rama Krishna Mission Secondary School, Nabon Sawian Memorial Secondary School and Rabon Sing Memorial Lower Primary School. The school children participated in competitions such as drawing and poetry related to the theme followed by distribution of prizes. An awareness regarding plastic pollution was also conducted by students of Department of Environment and Traditional Ecosystems, Martin Luther Christian University. This was followed by release of a pamphlet on “Butterflies of Cherapunji” by Mr Sanjay Sondi of Titli Trust. Post the formal program tree plantation activity was done where plantation of 80 saplings was done where whoever plants the sapling, they would also take care of the sapling throughout its growing phase.
