World Suicide Prevention Day by the Department of Psychology, Martin Luther Christian University

September 10, 2022

With the overall goal of raising awareness about suicide prevention in the society, and to promote stakeholder collaboration and self-empowerment to address self-harm and suicide through preventative action, the department of Psychology, Martin Luther Christian University, organised a awareness program on September 10, 2022 at Motohran.

Keeping with this year’s theme for World Suicide Prevention Day which is “Creating Hope through Action”, Ms. Iwapaka Shullai, faculty of the department spoke about how the society has the responsibility and power to create hope through action. The theme was also highlighted by a role play performed by the students, in which the focus was on how to detect and identify warning signs of suicidal intentions, and to help and guide towards professional help. A Candlelight Vigil to remember those who lost their lives and those affected by suicide, was also successfully carried through by the department at Khyndai Lad, Police Bazaar, on the same evening. The students and faculty took part in a prayer and a 2 minute silence which was observed for those who have taken their lives and those who were affected by it.
